Asphalt Shingle Roofing in Norwalk, Finished and Followed Up

We install and repair asphalt shingle roofs with attention to the parts you never see: underlayment, flashing, nailing and ventilation. When the job is done, we come back to check it and walk you through how to keep your new roof in good shape.

A Shingle Roof Is Only as Good as What Sits Under It

Asphalt shingles cover most homes in Norwalk and the surrounding area for good reason. They are light, they come in a wide range of colors and profiles, and they handle long dry summers and winter rain well when they are installed correctly. Most problems we see trace back to the installation, not the shingle itself: a starter course left out, nails placed high, step flashing reused from the last roof.

We work with architectural shingles for most reroofs, laid over synthetic underlayment with new drip edge, new pipe boots and flashing fitted to each wall and chimney. If your roof is fairly young and only part of it is failing, our roof repair work may be the better call, and we will tell you so.

Our work does not end with the cleanup. A few weeks after the job we check back, look over the roof and gutters, and leave you simple care notes for the years ahead.

What Comes With Our Shingle Work

Tear-off down to the deck
We remove every shingle and all the old underlayment so the sheathing is bare. Any boards that are soft, swollen or separating get photographed and shown to you before we replace them.
New underlayment and drip edge
Synthetic underlayment covers the whole deck, with extra protection in valleys and around pipes where water collects. New metal edging at the eaves guides runoff into the gutters and keeps it off the fascia.
All-new flashing
We install new step flashing, wall flashing and pipe boots instead of patching the old ones. Those are where most shingle roof leaks begin.
Nailed the way the maker specifies
Each shingle gets the manufacturer's nail count, placed in the nail zone. It takes patience, and it is what holds shingles flat when the Santa Ana winds blow.
Attic airflow and ridge cap
We confirm the attic has proper intake and exhaust, then top the roof with ridge cap shingles in the same color as the rest.
Follow-up visit and care notes
Once the roof has settled, we return to inspect it and tell you what to keep an eye on, such as blocked gutters and debris in the valleys.

Signs Your Shingles Are Wearing Out

  • Grit collecting at the downspouts

Dark, sand-like grit washing out of downspouts means the mineral coating is shedding. Without it, sunlight bakes the asphalt directly and the shingle ages much faster.

  • Curling or cupped edges

When corners turn up or the center of a shingle dips, the asphalt has lost its oils. Those raised edges give wind an easy grip.

  • Cracks and brittle tabs

Years of strong sun make shingles stiff. Cracked tabs let water reach the underlayment.

  • Missing pieces after wind

A few shingles on the lawn after a windy night usually point to weak nailing or a sealant strip that no longer holds.

  • Stains on the ceiling

Brown rings or peeling paint below the roof often start at a pipe boot or flashing. Our roof leak repair page covers how we trace those.

What Goes Into the Cost of a Shingle Roof

We price each roof from our own measurements and findings, never from a table. Service Finance Company offers financing if you would like to pay over time, subject to credit approval. The written estimate itemizes the job so you can see what each part costs.

Size and slope

A bigger roof needs more bundles and more days of work. Steep roofs require roof jacks, harnesses and careful movement, which raises labor.

How many layers come off

Older houses sometimes have two shingle layers. Every extra layer means more tear-off time and more weight to haul away.

State of the decking

Sheathing that is rotted or coming apart must be replaced before shingles go on. You see what we find before we replace any of it.

Shingle type and color

Architectural shingles run higher than basic three-tab, and the energy code may call for cool-rated shingles, or you may simply prefer them.

Roof features

Every chimney, skylight, valley and vent brings its own flashing work.

From First Visit to Final Check

  1. 1

Roof walk, attic look and estimate

We get up on the roof, look into the attic for trapped heat or damp, and check the gutters along the way. Afterward you receive photos and a free written estimate broken out item by item. If an insurance claim is part of the picture, we work directly with it.

  2. 2

    Permit and materials

We pull the permit, confirm which energy code rules apply to your reroof, and help you choose a shingle color and profile.

  3. 3

    Work days

Plants and walkways are covered, the old roof comes off one section at a time, and nothing is left open overnight. Most single-family reroofs take a few days depending on size and decking.

  4. 4

    Inspection and cleanup

After the city inspection, we magnet-sweep the yard and driveway for nails and clear the gutters of debris.

  5. 5

    We check back

A few weeks later we return to look over the roof, answer questions and leave you written care notes.

Questions About Shingle Roofs

What lifespan can I expect from a shingle roof here?

That comes down to the shingle, how well the attic is ventilated and the quality of the installation. Around here, strong sun does most of the aging. A well-vented, properly nailed roof lasts longer than one that bakes. An inspection tells us where yours is.

Can new shingles go over my current roof?

We usually recommend tearing off to the deck. That lets us find and repair soft wood, install all-new flashing and spare the framing extra weight. Shingling over hides problems that often come back within a few years.

Will I need cool-rated shingles?

Some California reroofs must use cool-rated roofing under the energy code. When we pull the permit we confirm what applies to your house and show you colors that comply.

Must I stay home during the work?

No. We just need yard access and, if possible, an open driveway. We review the plan with you before day one and give you an update as each day wraps up.

What do you check on the follow-up visit?

We look over the roof and gutters, make sure the ridge and flashing are seated properly and answer anything you have spotted. Then we cover easy upkeep, such as clearing valleys and cutting back branches.
